now if i were to ask ever person who uses steam, if steam is better and more efficent then 1.5, bet u more then 3/4 would say 1.5 0wNz steam because it does... well.. it did atleast..
now theres more cons then pros with steam

:Pros:
1. Server Finder: now i have to admit steam does do good here but there are some issues such as favorties disapearing out of no where.

:Cons:
1. Friends Network :well great idea superb idea now people can finally just join the game without have to give each other ip's on msn. well would be a good idea if IT EVEN WORKED HALF THE TIME!!!!
2. Performence: think of it this way we will do the engines of the games compared to real car engines.
CS 1.5: 502 750 HP Hemi
CS 1.6: 3.5 HP Briggs & Straton Lawnmower engine
CS:CZ: 80 HP V4 Civic Engine

SO FPS ON 1.6BLOWS EVEN IF U HAVE A LEET MACHINE

I have a "1337" machine and 1.6 performance does not at all "blow". It even runs on my laptop and that is slow. Maybe you shouldnt download pr0n viruses?

6800 on CS/CZ in smoke = 30fps

i would call that blows, but ive got used to it now, so it doesnt really bother me, i just hope my next machine will get me 32fps in smoke

Try reformating? I dont see how people get so low FPS.

negamative my computer is clean
cleron 2.4 oc to 3.2
384 ram ddr333
radeon 9800 pro

how can i not gget good fps? it drops from 100 to 50 sometimes on the 1600x1200 res aa af cranked to 16x and 6x
but it still drops on 800x600 with everything on low
i dunno how your laptop gets blistering performce

Your using a Celeron? well thats the first problem. Second..turn off AA and AF, your RAM is to low for that kinda stuff

FPS doesn't depend on just the speed of your video card. It goes together with your CPU and amount of physical RAM.

If you have a powerful CPU and over 512MB of RAM. Then you should clean out your HDD ( aka. Viruses, Spyware, Etc. ) and perform some tweaks.

Celerons are known for having a low amount of Cache. You can have 3Ghz on your CPU but without a good amount of cache to keep up with it, you're better off back at 2Ghz.
And if you are running XP, it requires atleast 256MB to run and recommended 512MB for other programs to use some RAM.

P.S. - Steam is a Content Delievery System, not a game engine. People need to understand that.

1.6 Performance blows eh?

My FPS in Smoke: 75Fps,
My Normal FPS: 75Fps (TFT monitor @ 1024 x 768 vsync on)
TimeRefresh Gives 400-600Fps depending on map, yeah, that blows.

I use 1024 x 768 4xAA 16xAF, but even when I use 16xAA (Rivatuner hidden option ) My FPS is decent.

Athlon Xp2600+, 768MB PC2700, MSI NX6800NU, so not exactly high end.

P.S : You spelt "Briggs and Stratton" wrong.

ya u all get good performence becuz u all have pretty good computers on 1.5 this machine had a geforce 2 and i was getting 80-100 fps on 1024x768 2xAF 4xAA but on 1.6 it droped about 50 fps ya i know its the cleron such a pos im hopeuflly getting a new MB and getting an Athlon xp or something or maybe just a P4 with HT i can have AF and AA cranked without fps drops so my video card can keep up but my ram and cpu cant so im hoping on getting a new one sometime soon

Punctuation is your friend. Next I would download Detonator Destroyer and reinstall your video card drivers with the lastest ones from the nVidia website. There is no reason to be running at that low of an FPS even with your crummy CPU and RAM amount. It sounds like you didn't properly clean out the previous drivers from your GeForce 2 when you installed your GeForce 6800. CS is a six year old game, and even with Steam installed you should be having such massive frame rate loss with a 6800.
