FPS random drop problem

** Sorry if this thread exist I swear I've searched and read tons of threads without success **

Well this is my problem, I play cs 1.6 or any steam game for that matter and I'll have 99 - 100 fps constant then a few minutes in the game it will turn into 30-40 constant

This is what I've done to try and fix it
-------------------------------------------------

Reinstalled all my ATI 9600 AIW Drivers
Switched to the Omega ATI 9600 Drivers
Formated my HDD
Formated the Drive that Steam is on
Reinstalled Steam
Tried Random Tweaks I found on here
Search the New for any Video Card Problems
Did some Benchmark test
And Now I'll all out of ideas...

if anyone could help it would be appreciated
thanks in advanced

There is nothing you can do about it. It seems to be a computer & software problem with CS & HL2.

I have similar FPS that you have on a:

Amd Athlon XP 2600 @2.13 ghz
512mb DDr 400 ram
120gb hd SATA
Radeon 9800 pro

I experience the same problems you have, it's no big deal. It runs smoothly on my buddys Athlon 64 3500 at high settings with 4x AA & Anistropic filtering. He has 2gb ddr 400 ram. Ocassional stutter.

All in all it still play smoothly afterwards, just be glad you don't the problems other people do like long loads, constant stuttering and fps drops.

im having this, but it drops to 1-2 (or less!) fps for a few seconds every once in a while. that once in a while is normally as soon as i walk around a corner (engine loading new things?). commonly, as soon as i walk around the corner... there is an enemy. i look like a moron, because i turn the corner, then i just STAND there, because my avatar wont move (even though im holding down a move button) and i sit there for a few seconds with less than a frame a second... needless to say, i get killed quite a lot. its rather annoying. only started a few days ago. any ideas? i havent changed anything, and i do have a good computer. it just started, with no changes.

defragging can help reformatting would be a lot better and the 1st thing you install is HL2/CS its not your video card sounds like your CPU isn't processing information fast enough or could be HD either way if defrag doesnt work try killing some process free up memory if that doesnt work resort to reformat. if still doesnt work need a new Motherboard/Processor

Same here. I've just reinstalled Steam and I'm redownloading CS:S to see if it will fix the problem. My system is different - and I should be getting a perfect framerate, in fact I was until the December 2nd patch, but now my CS:S framerate is completely unstable, jumping around between 20-200, which produces a stuttering effect that makes the game unplayable, at least if you want to have fun.

I'll tell you if reinstalling fixes it.

make sure your vid card doesn't have options on eg V-Sync and other option which can be affecting between Source and your card.

the strange thing is is that i KNOW where in the map the stuttering will happen, because it is always in the same places. the sniper ct spot on dust, bombsite A on dust 2.. doesnt happen in italy or aztec, except occasionally near the railing at the t spawn on italy. its only in certain spots.... i drop from 100+ fps down to less than 1, and unless i move out of that spot, i stay like that.

The only maps that seem to run without the stutterbug for me are de_chateau and de_piranesi.

Just reinstalled Steam, with no effect. Looks like I'm not getting a fix until VALVe decides to release one.

Needless to say, I'm not buying anything else they're selling.
